Virus nightmare

When people try to compare the past with the present they make a totally misleading error. Well into late March and early April, most testing of people for Covid 19 was done in hospitals or with a doctor's referral, not the general public, totally different scenario than today.

There is a difference between a "case" as we typically use the term and a positive test . Back in March and April all of NY numbers in fact the entire nation's tests for covid 19 were actual cases (patients). Today the vast majority of Florida numbers and the nation's are positive tests, big difference. There will be more deaths but not even close to NY. 

As an example:
Yesterday July 13 FL had 35 deaths exactly 3 weeks prior (lag time) FL had 1902 new "cases"

On March 21 NY had 1903 new "cases" exactly 3 weeks later on April 11 NY had 966 deaths, this difference has and will continue to play out.

 At the height of New York's epidemic deaths were being counted in hundreds not teens. To pretend that Florida, or any other state is going to replay NY and the other Northeast states example from earlier this year is just not realistic. If that is not convincing, then explain what is happening in Europe? They are not having a tremendous surge in "cases", why? It is testing. If I want on any day I can drive down to a local testing place for free or wait and once a week go to the local high school and get a test for covid 19, no symptoms, no referral no appointment, no charge. What would I have to do in the United Kingdom?

"Tests are now available to all adults and most children in the UK with a fever, a new continuous cough or a loss of smell or taste.In England and Wales you can apply for a swab test for yourself, or for anyone in your household, if you or they have symptoms."

See the difference? Apply and symptoms. For some reason, we know the reason, people would have you believe that we are in the throws of a "new wave" because Trump or DeSantis or other GOP governors do not know what they are doing or somehow infecting innocent people. Well California is experiencing the same "problem" as Florida and they were "locked down" far harder and for longer than Florida or Texas.

During the height of New York's outbreak both the city and the the state were shut down, well except subways and nursing homes, yet New York, the state, even without the city still has had twice as many deaths as Florida. That is after taking 8.4 million people and that "high density" out of the equation, with the city it is 7 times more deaths. Not only is the media fear mongering the the hell out of this, they are covering for the total ineptitude of Democratic governors and mayors who they are now insisting the rest of the nation follow. This will only further harm our nation's economy, our children's education and overall well being, and our own happiness with no meaningful benefit and with far more long term harm to the nation.

If everyone had done what Florida did, in the beginning, protect their nursing homes rather than infecting them with other Covid 19 patients as several states did, the nation's numbers would be far less. Instead we are allowing the inept policies of of the incompetent scare us into a panic, which will only exacerbate a manageable situation. 

If we want a virus nightmare, it will not be covid 19 that does it, it will be our fear driven by truly the enemy of the people.
