According to this Rasmussen poll, 48% of American's believe that government spending hurts the ecconomy and another 7% think it does not help. We can assume in that bit of information, confirmed by other polls, most Americans do not believe in Kensyian Ecconomics, thank goodness there is still hope for the country.
Obama is making a serious mistake in beieving that his election is a validation of his policies rather than his personality. It is not amazing to me that he ran as some sort of centerist in the general election and now believes he can govern as a Liberal. A poll right after the election as well as those just prior to the election showed that a majority of Americans honestly believed that Obama would provide tax cuts, something he made every effort to promote in the minds of the electorate, remember the old "95% of Americans will get tax cuts under my plan".
Evidently people believed him. In fact just after the election another Rasmussen Poll found something that Obama seems to want to ignore,
President Obama is squandring an opportunity to really do something good and historic, by doing something shallow and yet still historic. Unfortunately this shallow approach is going to truly hurt the ecconomy in the long run and destroy any chance for true bi-partisan America for the forseeable future.-Jer

Yet here is the President mocking the Republicans for pushing for tax cuts over spending, which is precisely what the American people want and believe would be best. Just 20% think new government spending is what is needed, while 17% aren’t sure which is better.
Fifty percent (50%) of U.S. voters say the final economic recovery
plan that emerges from Congress is at least somewhat likely to make things worse rather than better....
