Honduran Fall

Via-Jer
Watching Obama fall in the polls though not surprising has a couple of interesting elements. The first is from Gallup which now has him at a 53 approval rating as of today 7/29, his lowest approval rating yet from Gallup. But that is not what is interesting, it comes from their summary of last weeks polling when he was still at 56%.

First his approval rating fell 4 points among whites, not unexpected after the Gates fiasco, but it also put him under 50% approval among whites for the first time to 47%, that's not good considering three weeks ago it was at 52%.

But the far more surprising stat is Hispanics, last week Obama dropped 7% among Hispanics in a week, from 79% to 72%. If this is true and continues, which we will have a better indication after next week, it will show just how out of touch pundits and the political class are. Consider this, in a week in which Obama and the Democrats are pushing health care, Sotomayor is being criticized by Republicans and lauded by the Democrats, the Hispanics are upset with Obama, why?

Honduras, people do not leave their homeland and move to America just for the money, America is supposed to represent something, freedom. I suspect that the Obama Administration's attitude to what is going on in Honduras besides being a pathetic departure from the American ideal, is going to have a significant and unintended consequence with his standing among Hispanics in domestic politics.
