"It's America stupid"

Via-WU Blog

The now famous words of James Carvelle in the "92" election of Bill Clinton brought to you by Ross Perot-"it's the economy stupid", became the catch phrase for the art of simplifying an issue which will resonate with the electorate. The idea was so brilliant in its simplicity that it has become one of the gold standards of political warfare, it is called staying on message.

Of course this idea of simplifying a message and sticking to it works far better in a political campaign than actually governing, but it is still important. For example the Obama Administration has been rightfully criticized for constantly changing their focus during the health care debate. They have variously tried to push various themes rather than settling on one or two and sticking to it, :health care is a right","insuring the uninsured", "health care costs", "insurance reform", and on and on, now it will be "Teddy Care". They ought to come up with a little fat cuddly stuffed bear with a shirt that says "Teddy still cares."

Obviously quite a bit of this distraction from a coherent message comes from responding to criticism of the non plan plan. Sarah Palin sent them into a two week tizzy with a face book posting. Which only goes to show how pathetic the entire venture was to begin with.

Of course the real problem is the American people attending town halls and demonstrating against it all over the country. American people are not opposed to reform of the health care system, they are opposed in ever growing numbers to their government-they don't trust it. Not on health care, not with their money, not with much of anything. Simply put, in America by a large margin do not think that bigger government is better.

Today (August 31) Obama reached his lowest approval rating in the Rasmussen Daily Tracking to date 45% to 52% disapproval. Zogby has come out with a poll showing him at 42%. Gallup has been hanging out around 50% for the past few days and I suspect even the usual biased media polls will not be much higher as they are released in the coming days.

It is not as if Obama has done anything new on the health care debate in the past week to continue to drive his numbers down-he's been on vacation. I do not think that his approval ratings are falling simply due to the health care debate, the town halls, or Sarah Palin. His numbers are and will continue to fall because of far more damaging consequences, to himself and to the country.

The CIA investigations by the Justice Department. Everybody knows that Obama approves of it, if he didn't they wouldn't be happening. Despite trying to make it look like the AG is doing it on his own everyone knows that Obama could have stopped it- and should have. The fact that he is doing it is not only pissing off a majority of the American Public for doing it, but also for acting like he has no control over it. This from Rasmussen;

Fifty-four percent (54%) of all voters, however, believe the investigation of past CIA interrogation practices endangers the national security of the United States. Only 29% say it helps the image of America abroad, and 18% are not sure

Not only do Americans not want single payer health care, they don't much care for the idea of the President of The United States putting citizens in greater danger. Even in his own party only 55% support an investigation. Of course that means some of those Dems both support an investigation and admit that it will jeopardize our National Security which is a bit scary.

I am sure that when and if polling data comes out on it, we will find that a majority of Americans are not all to keen on how the whole Abdel baset Ali al-Megrahi thing was handled. Does anyone honestly think that if either of the Bushes or Ronald Reagan were president this guy would have been released? Hell Bill Clinton even bombed Iraq for threatening George Sr. Not on your life. The idea that a President of the United States could not stop the release of a terrorist who murdered 189 Americans from the jail of our closest ally is both repugnant and unbelievable.

This is all just a continuing theme of the Obama world view. The tepid response to the Iranian protests, the idiotic position towards Honduran Democracy, the apologies, the Gitmo closing nonsense, all this is piling up in American psyche like a festering sore.

You see we have somehow elected a president that does not see the world like the majority of us do. Worse he does not see America as the majority of us do. His actions and his policies are consistently at odds with a majority of the American people. Not on small things either, and not on some superficial level. No Barack Obama sees, acts and governs as if we are the problem, when in our American soul we know we represent the solution.
